Testimonials
Cold water coming out of the hot tap in Meadow Springs? Drip Hunters fixes gas, electric, continuous flow, solar and heat pump systems from all the major brands. There is no call-out fee, and you get a fixed quote before we start any work.
We are a family-run business based in Port Kennedy, about 25 minutes up the road, and we carry parts for the common makes so most repairs are done in one visit. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Hot Water Problem Right Now? Start Here
- Gas smell near the unit? Turn the gas off at the meter, keep flames and switches well away, and call the ATCO gas emergency line on 13 13 52.
- Water leaking from the tank? Close the cold water valve that feeds the unit. For an electric system, switch off the hot water circuit at the switchboard as well.
- Electric unit gone cold? Look for a tripped safety switch. If it trips again once reset, leave it off, as that usually points to a failed element.
- Then ring us on 0439 922 548. We will tell you when we can be there and what to expect.

What We Repair on Each Type of System
Electric storage tanks
The element and thermostat do most of the work, and they are the parts that fail most. Both can be replaced without swapping the tank, which is why an electric unit is often a straightforward fix.
Gas storage tanks
When a gas unit will not light or keeps going out, the thermocouple, the gas control valve or a dirty burner is usually behind it. All gas work on your system is carried out by a licensed gas fitter.
Continuous flow units
Instantaneous systems show an error code when something is wrong. Ignition faults, a blocked inlet filter, a faulty flow sensor or low gas supply are the common causes, and we read the code on site to find the right one.
Solar and heat pump systems
Broken evacuated tubes, circulation pumps, controllers and boosters are the usual repairs. Tubes can often be replaced individually, so you are not paying for a whole new collector.
Why Meadow Springs Systems Need Attention
Much of Meadow Springs was built from the 1990s onwards, so a lot of homes are on their second hot water system and some are still running the first. Units that age tend to fail in predictable places: worn valves, tired elements and thermostats, and tanks that have started to corrode from the inside.
Mineral content in the local water adds to it. Scale and sediment settle in the bottom of storage tanks, coat heating elements and make the system work harder than it should. Inside every storage tank is a sacrificial anode that corrodes so the tank does not. Once it is used up, rust moves to the tank itself, and a rusted tank cannot be fixed. Getting the anode checked around the five year mark is a small cost that can add years to the system.
Repair It or Replace It?
A repair is usually the right call when
- The unit is less than 10 years old
- The tank is dry and free of rust
- The fault is a single replaceable part
- The system has been reliable until now
A replacement usually makes more sense when
- The tank is leaking or corroded
- The unit is 12 years old or more
- More than one part is failing
- You have paid for repairs on it before
WA Regulations for Hot Water Repairs
In Western Australia, only a licensed plumber can work on the water side of your hot water system, and only a licensed gas fitter can work on a gas unit. For most gas work, the gas fitter must lodge a notice of completion with Building and Energy. Joel holds both licences, plumbing PL8883 and gas fitting GF011765, so you are not waiting on two different trades.
Hot water should be stored at 60°C or higher to control Legionella. When a system is installed or replaced, a tempering valve is required so water reaching bathrooms is no hotter than 50°C. Scalding or lukewarm showers are often a tempering valve problem, and it is one of the first things we test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about hot water repairs across Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah
The cost comes down to your system and the part that has failed. Replacing an element, thermostat, relief valve or thermocouple is usually a fraction of the price of a new unit. We diagnose the fault first and give you a fixed quote before we touch anything, with no call-out fee.
We are based in Port Kennedy, around 25 minutes up the road. For urgent faults we aim for same-day or next-day attendance where possible, and otherwise book you in within 1 to 2 business days. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Most jobs are done in one visit because we carry parts for the common makes and models. If your unit needs a part that has to be ordered in, we tell you how long it will take and leave the system safe until we are back.
We diagnose the fault, give you a fixed quote, supply and fit the parts, then test the system, check the relief valve and confirm the water temperature before we leave. If the unit is near the end of its life, you will hear that from us straight away.
No. There is no call-out fee for hot water repairs in Meadow Springs or anywhere else we work. You pay for the diagnosis and the repair, nothing extra.
If the tank is sound, the system is under 10 years old and the fault is a replaceable part, a repair is usually worth it. If the tank is leaking or rusted, the unit is 12 years or older, or it has had several breakdowns, replacing it tends to be cheaper over time. We will tell you which way we would go and why.
Work on the water side of the system must be done by a licensed plumber, and work on a gas hot water system must be done by a licensed gas fitter, who lodges a notice of completion with Building and Energy for most gas work. Joel holds WA plumbing licence PL8883 and gas fitting licence GF011765, so one visit covers both.
We repair gas and electric storage tanks, continuous flow units, solar and heat pump systems from all major brands, including Rheem, Rinnai, Bosch, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax and Thermann.
That noise is usually sediment and scale that has built up in the bottom of the tank. Water gets trapped under the layer, boils and pops as the tank heats. It makes the system work harder and wear out faster, so it is worth having checked before it turns into a leak.
Make sure they hold a current WA plumbing licence, plus a gas fitting licence if your system runs on gas. Ask for a fixed quote before work starts and look for someone who will be honest about whether a repair is worth your money.
Yes. We repair hot water systems in Meadow Springs, Lakelands, Madora Bay, San Remo, Silver Sands, Greenfields and across Mandurah, as well as north through Singleton, Golden Bay, Secret Harbour, Port Kennedy and Rockingham.
