Testimonials
No hot water in Rockingham? Drip Hunters is based in Port Kennedy, about five minutes down the road, so getting a licensed plumber to your door is quick. We repair gas, electric, solar and heat pump systems from all the major brands, with no call-out fee and a fixed quote before any work starts.
We carry parts for the common makes and models, so most repairs are sorted in a single visit. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
No Hot Water Right Now? Do This First
- Smell gas? Turn the gas off at the meter, keep flames and switches away from the area, and call the ATCO gas emergency line on 13 13 52.
- Tank leaking? Turn off the cold water valve going into the unit. On an electric system, also switch off the hot water circuit at the switchboard.
- Electric system gone cold? Check the switchboard for a tripped safety switch. If it trips again after you reset it, leave it off.
- Then call us on 0439 922 548. We will talk you through it and get a plumber out to you.

Common Hot Water Repairs by System Type
Electric storage
Most faults come down to the heating element or the thermostat, and both are replaceable. A blown element often trips the safety switch, which is why an electric system going cold and a tripped switchboard tend to arrive together.
Gas storage
A failed thermocouple, a faulty gas control valve or a burner fouled with dust and debris are the usual culprits when a gas unit will not light or stay lit. All gas work is done by a licensed gas fitter.
Continuous flow
Instantaneous units usually tell you what is wrong with an error code. Common causes are ignition faults, a blocked water filter or flow sensor, and gas supply issues. We diagnose the code on site rather than guessing.
Solar and heat pump
Cracked evacuated tubes, circulation pump failures, controller faults and booster problems are the usual repairs. Tubes can often be replaced one at a time instead of swapping out the whole collector.
Why Rockingham Hot Water Systems Wear Out Early
Salt air is hard on anything that lives outside. Units close to the coast in Rockingham, Shoalwater and Safety Bay see faster corrosion on fittings, valves and gas controls than systems further inland. Inside the tank, sediment settles on the bottom over time, which makes the unit noisy and less efficient.
The part most people never hear about is the sacrificial anode. It sits inside a storage tank and corrodes so the tank does not. Once it is used up, rust starts on the tank itself, and a rusted tank cannot be repaired. Having the anode checked around the five year mark is cheap insurance for a system you want to last.
Repair or Replace?
Repair usually makes sense when
- The system is under 10 years old
- The tank itself is sound, with no rust or leaks
- The fault is a replaceable part like an element, thermostat or valve
- It is the first real problem the unit has had
Replacement is usually smarter when
- The tank is leaking or rusted through
- The unit is 12 years or older
- Several parts are failing at once
- It keeps breaking down and you keep paying for it
WA Rules That Apply to Hot Water Repairs
In WA, work on the water side of your hot water system must be done by a licensed plumber, and any work on a gas system must be done by a licensed gas fitter. For most gas work, the gas fitter lodges a notice of completion with Building and Energy. Joel holds both licences, plumbing PL8883 and gas fitting GF011765, so you do not need two trades for one job.
Stored hot water should be kept at 60°C or above to control Legionella bacteria. When a system is installed or replaced, a tempering valve is required to keep water delivered to bathrooms at no more than 50°C. If your water is scalding hot or never quite warm enough, the tempering valve is often the first thing we check.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about hot water repairs across Perth, Rockingham and Mandurah
It depends on your system and what has actually failed. Common repairs like a heating element, thermostat, relief valve or thermocouple usually cost far less than a new system. We diagnose the fault first, then give you a fixed quote before any work starts, and there is no call-out fee.
We are based in Port Kennedy, about five minutes from Rockingham, so we can often get to you the same day during business hours. If not, we will book you in within 1 to 2 business days. We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Most repairs are finished in a single visit because we carry parts for the common makes and models. If your unit needs a less common part that has to be ordered, we will tell you the timeframe up front and make the system safe in the meantime.
We find the fault, give you a fixed quote, supply and fit the parts, then test the system and check the relief valve and water temperature before we leave. If your unit is close to the end of its life, we will tell you straight so you are not paying for repairs that will not last.
No. Drip Hunters does not charge a call-out fee for hot water repairs. You pay for the diagnosis and the repair, with nothing hidden on top.
Repair usually makes sense if the system is under 10 years old, the tank is sound and the fault is a replaceable part like an element, thermostat or valve. Replacement is usually the better call if the tank itself is leaking or rusted, the unit is 12 years or older, or it keeps breaking down. We will give you an honest recommendation either way.
Yes. In WA, work on the water side of your system must be done by a licensed plumber, and any work on a gas hot water system must be done by a licensed gas fitter, who lodges a notice of completion with Building and Energy for most gas work. Joel holds both licences, plumbing PL8883 and gas fitting GF011765, so one visit covers the lot.
We repair all major brands, including Rheem, Rinnai, Bosch, Dux, Vulcan, Aquamax and Thermann. That covers gas and electric storage tanks, continuous flow units, solar and heat pump systems.
A small amount of water from the relief valve while the tank is heating is normal, because heated water expands. A constant drip or steady flow usually means the valve has worn out or the pressure is too high. Relief valves have a limited life and are generally due for replacement around every five years.
Check they hold a current WA plumbing licence, and a gas fitting licence if you have a gas system. Ask for a fixed quote before work starts, and look for someone who will tell you honestly whether a repair is worth doing. A local plumber also means a faster response when you have no hot water.
Yes. We repair hot water systems across Rockingham, Safety Bay, Shoalwater, Cooloongup, Waikiki, Warnbro, Port Kennedy, Baldivis and Secret Harbour, and down through Golden Bay, Singleton, Lakelands, Meadow Springs and Mandurah. We also cover Kwinana and Bertram.
